Time to jettison those jeans

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

For an absolute age now jeans have been worn for a girls night out, denim has become part of the scene whether cubbing partying or dining.

Paired with a fetching top in addition of a pair of heels, your jeans have long been acceptable evening wear, but now the look is getting tired, its time to move on and try something different.

What to wear instead? Well if you want to keep your legs covered how about trying a high waisted pair of trousers for size?

However don’t wear your new trousers with a smock top, instead choose a fitted top which will give you a well defined shape, something pretty in a light silky material will work best to add a more feminine look to the ensemble. To finish off the look wear your highest heels as a long leg will show off this outfit to its best advantage.

Biba Clothing

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Biba was created in the 1960’s by Barbara Hulanicki, working in partnership with her husband Stephen Fitz-Simon. The idea was to create garments to sell by mail order.

Black patent leather, belted mac. Garment is slim-fitting with puffed shoulders, large front pockets and a button-up fastening. Fully lined. Fabric, 100% leather.

Their big break came when Felicity Green, Fashion Editor of the Daily Mirror, asked if Hulanicki would design something for a reader’s offer. The resulting pink gingham dress sold through the paper for 25 shillings, and immediately netted £14,000-worth of orders.

Delicate floral printed mini-dress. Double-layer, silk chiffon fabrication with pussy bow tie at neck. Garment is slim fitting with exaggerated balloon sleeve and tiny cuff. Fabric, 100% silk.

The early colours of the collection were often funeral-like with blackish browns, dark prunes, plus rust and blueberry hues. These were worn by celebrities such as fashion editor Molly Parkin, popstars Sonny and Cher, actress Julie Christie and model Twiggy.

Black peep-toe heels with patchwork style design. Chunky 4.5-inch heel, platform front and two-tone fabrication. 100% leather & patent leather.

The rise to fame came to an abrupt end and in Hulanicki and Fitz-Simon quit the business in 1975, and moved to Brazil.
