Primark head the UK market for cheap chic

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Cheap chic or fast fashion as it is also known has been with us for a long time now, basically it is the practice of taking the latest catwalk trends and producing cheaply priced versions for sale on the high street.

Primark have increased their share in this market by 4% over the last 12 months overtaking Asda’s George which has range slipped to around 16%, down almost 1% from 2006.

Other leading contenders in this cut price fashion area, which at £8.5 billion is about 24% of total UK clothing spend, include New Look and Tesco.

Primark’s share of the overall clothing market is 4.5%, they still have a bit to go to catch the market leader Marks & Spencer who remain well in front at 11.3%.

Crocs are a godsend when pregnant

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Last week I caught up with my friend Jill for a coffee and a chat, Jill is heavily pregnant only has a about a week to go.

I asked he how she was coping especially with her son Adam who is a high energy three year old constantly rushing around at warp factor 10. Jill explained how walking had become truly became a tedious task, and the pain at times was excruciating until that is she discovered Crocs shoes.

I’ll let her take up the story:

“I hadn’t experienced any real foot pain with my first pregnancy, largely due to the fact that I was on large helpings of bed rest during the final few weeks. This pregnancy has been totally different. I have been walking regularly for exercise and chasing Adam around every day. My poor feet really took a hammering and I had given up hope fully expecting a few more weeks of suffering, when at my prenatal class I got talking to one of the girls who was further gone than me, and not to put too finer point on it she was huge, anyway the conversation got round to feet and she astounded me by saying that she had hardly had a twinge, ‘getting plenty of rest then?’ I asked? ‘hardly any’ she confided ‘totally impossible with two kids and an invalid mother to look after’, anyway I was totally intrigued and it turns out her secret was Crocs shoes, and she suggested that I try a pair of my own. I was very skeptical really believing that a pair of new shoes could make much of a difference, still I was at my wits end and willing to try anything so off I went and purchased my first pair of Crocs.”

“It was amazing from the very first second that I slipped my swollen feet into them, I knew that I had found relief. These lightweight cushiony shoes are just like walking on a cloud, my feet instantly felt comforted. The shoes also have plenty of room which is a godsend as my feet tend to swell throughout the day. I love them even more because they are slip-ons and there is no need to bend down to put them, this is a major plus when pregnant.

A main selling point of Crocs shoes is that they mould to your feet for maximum support, not a lot else I can add really Jill has covered it all.

Affliction Clothing

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Californian fashion label Affliction Clothing is about being loud, nothing is subdued about this brand, its brash in your face and, yes you have guessed it, loud, it’s edgy and has tons of personality. Yet with all these perks, it’s not exactly the kind of clothing that’ll dry up your savings accounts.

Inspiration for Affliction Clothing’s designs come from the worlds of music, art and culture, gothic and tattoo influences are heavily drawn on too.

Affliction Clothing is for for those that want to stand out, not for people who want to disappear into the crowd and fit in with the rest of the clones.

Rock Bands have taken to Affliction Clothing as one of the brands to wear as the designs fit the outgoing, fast living lifestyle.

Skulls, roses, and crows are prominent in the designs, also in abundance are paint splatters and special stains which gives and extremely unique vintage quality.
