Azzedine Alaia

Azzedine Alaia born in 1940 to Tunisian parents, was inspired to be a couture designer by his glamorous twin sister.

Black double-breasted dress coat, with leather fashioning adorning seams. Garment has a slim fitting bodice, rounded lapels and a full, A-line skirt. Fabric, 100% wool.

Having graduated in 1957, Alaia moved to Paris to work in the fashion industry. For two seasons he worked for Guy Laroche, and then for Thierry Mugler.

By 1980 he had produced his first ready-to-wear collection, and was voted best designer of the year by the French Ministry of Culture.

In 1988 after selling his designs to the American market for five years he opened boutiques in Beverly Hills, New York, and Paris. His seductive, clinging clothes were a massive success and celebrities such as Raquel Welch, Madonna, and Naomi Campbell were seen wearing his clothes.

In the 1990s Alaia disappeared catering just for private clientele, however in 2000, he signed a partnership with Prada and due to the success of his footwear and leather goods, he bought back his brand name in July 2007.
