Clothes to suit your shape.

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Whatever your shape and size, if you find the correct fitting clothes, you can look and feel a million dollars.

The tips below help you understand which clothes are best suited for your body shape.

Athletic

Athletic build is best described as tall, broad shouldered, narrow hips, and long legs. In general most clothes will look good on you, and your only problem is finding clothes to fit your leg length.

Straight Body

Straight Body people have no waistline. Therefore you should avoid wearing clothes that draw you attention to that region, such as high waisted skirts and trousers. You should wear clothes with a drop waist, and a wrap dress would be a great look for you.

Hourglass

The hourglass shape is best described as having a small waist or curvy hips. Bigger hips need slim skirts and well-cut trousers, and if you have a large bust avoid high necklines. Scoop necks or V-necklines are recommended, and a cropped jacket or top will disguise your hips.

Apple shaped

Apple shaped people quite often have a small neck. If this is the case then V-necklines tops are recommended. The main rule is avoid anything that is figure hugging, and keep to items such as wide legged trousers or flared skirts with loose fitting blouses or jackets.

Pear-shaped

The typical UK body shape. Well-cut straight legged trousers or A-line skirts, worn with a longish loose fitting top’s are recommended for this shape. In the 80’s shoulder pads were recommended, however a nice flowing dress can look stunning.

Tips for shopping in the sales

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

When its sale time alot of people get over excited and buy items not because they need them, but because they think they have bought a bargain. This then leads to having items that do not go with anything, or do not fit properly.

Hopefully you will find the following tips useful.

The obvious first tip is to know what you already have. This stops you buying something that you already own, and helps match the item with other clothes in your closet. If you buy something completely different you then may have to then spend a lot more money finding garments to go with it.

Always try on clothes before you buy them. You must be certain they fit and suit you, as most clothes on sale cannot be returned or exchanged later. Also the size above or below may have gone if they are returnable.

Before you buy the garment you should check that it is in perfect condition. Sometimes sale items have small defects such as ripped seams, holes in the fabric or missing buttons. If you do find a defect that you can easily repair and the garment is not labelled as such, then you may want to ask for an additional discount.

The final tip is only buy clothes in your current size. Quite often people buy garments thinking they will fit into them after a bit of dieting, but in reality they never get worn.

Jeans to suit your shape.

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

There are many brands and styles of jeans to choose from. The cardinal rule is always buy a pair of jeans that fit you really well.(Remember that denim will stretch over time, and denim shrinks during the first wash.)

This guide will help you choose the style that fits your figure:

Petite Size

Look for a low-rise straight or skinny leg. Stay away from capris, flares and too much embellishment, which cut the length of the legs. Also avoid higher rises, because they make your body look short.

Pear Shaped

To balance your bigger hips and thighs with your slimmer upper body, go for a slight boot-cut or straight leg. Make sure the jeans are not too tight around your thigh. A medium to high-rise waist flattens the tummy. Larger or higher back pockets will make a large bum appear smaller.

Apple Shaped

If you have slim limbs and carry your weight around your middle, you should Wear a slim-leg stretch-denim boot cut in order to create the slimmest look. A high rise helps hide a few extra pounds in the middle. Higher back pockets will also help lift your bum.

Plus Size

Look for a middle to high-rise straight-leg in dark denim, preferably with stretch lycra. Avoid tapered legs and bulky front pockets. A good idea maybe to try some Men’s jeans as their style may suit and fit you better.

How not to become a fashion victim.

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Below are some simple tips, and probably obvious to most people, however after you have read this article you will be able to spot those victims of fashion!

Make sure your underwear fits.

Your undergarments affect your overall appearance, and having the correct sizes gives you the support you need, and also can define your figure.

Badly fitting underwear can create unsightly bulges. So throw anything that is stretched, too tight, and have regular bra fittings.

Make sure your clothes are not too tight.

Sizes were invented for the sole reason of identifying the differences, not an ego boost as you can just fit into those size 10 jeans, as long as you do not eat or sneeze.

If you wear clothes that are too small, you will appear heavier than you actually are.

You will look much slimmer if you wear the appropriate sized clothes or slightly bigger clothes with belts to enhance your figure.

Sweat stains.

Sweat stains on shirts and blouses are particularly unsightly. Be sure to use underarm deodorant frequently, and if you do get a stain rub vinegar with soda water, before washing to remove it.

Do not wear trousers that are too short.

The correct length for trousers is half the heel of your shoe or longer for a lady, and just touching the top of your shoe for a man.

Anything shorter looks like you outgrew your trousers and cannot afford to buy a new pair.

Do not wear bulky jumpers with tight jackets.

Tight jackets are very nice if you wear fitting shirts or blouses in a thin fabric. If you want to wear a thick jumper then you need a wider jacket with lower armholes.

Do not buy clothes that do not go with anything.

Just because you see something that catches your eye does not mean you have to buy it.

Make sure you have at least a couple of things that will match. It can become very expensive trying to find something to go with it.
