Songs to help you slim

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Last week a package dropped on my desk, I like prezzies so I ripped it open, as you do, and out popped a review copy of Skinny Songs a CD created to motivate you into losing weight and getting fit, a bit skeptical I put it in the CD drive on my PC and I was pleasantly surprised, right from the start I was tapping my feet.

Here is an interview with SkinnySongs creator Heidi Roizen:

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

After listening to the album for a week I’m hooked, these songs are great for geeing me up with the housework, they put me in the right frame of mind to walk to work rather than jump on a bus, and when I’m on those working lunches I now have the will power to say no to the sticky toffee pudding, at this rate I’ll soon be back in skinny jeans.

One thing is for certain when ever I’m feeling a bit fat and frumpy I’ll be playing Skinny Songs on my Ipod, its sure to inspire me to do something about it.

Prevent Oily Shine ruining your make-up

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

This is the start of a new series where Auntie Susan answers your questions about beauty.

I am concerned about oily shine spoiling my make-up, is there any way to control the shine without using the dreaded face powder, which is a pet hate of mine?
Guinot Matizone Shine Control Moisturiser 50ml
Try using one of the new mattifying moisturisers which are now available. They contain micro-capsules which absorb oils like a sponge and help keep pores unclogged. Use in place of your regular moisturiser, be sure to clean your face thoroughly before use. Guinot Matizone Shine Control Moisturiser or Clearskin Mattifying Moisturiser should do the trick.

Naturally you want to look your best all of the time, hopefully I can help, I am always here to answer your beauty worries.

If you have a question for Auntie Susan get in touch via the contact form.

Crocs are a godsend when pregnant

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Last week I caught up with my friend Jill for a coffee and a chat, Jill is heavily pregnant only has a about a week to go.

I asked he how she was coping especially with her son Adam who is a high energy three year old constantly rushing around at warp factor 10. Jill explained how walking had become truly became a tedious task, and the pain at times was excruciating until that is she discovered Crocs shoes.

I’ll let her take up the story:

“I hadn’t experienced any real foot pain with my first pregnancy, largely due to the fact that I was on large helpings of bed rest during the final few weeks. This pregnancy has been totally different. I have been walking regularly for exercise and chasing Adam around every day. My poor feet really took a hammering and I had given up hope fully expecting a few more weeks of suffering, when at my prenatal class I got talking to one of the girls who was further gone than me, and not to put too finer point on it she was huge, anyway the conversation got round to feet and she astounded me by saying that she had hardly had a twinge, ‘getting plenty of rest then?’ I asked? ‘hardly any’ she confided ‘totally impossible with two kids and an invalid mother to look after’, anyway I was totally intrigued and it turns out her secret was Crocs shoes, and she suggested that I try a pair of my own. I was very skeptical really believing that a pair of new shoes could make much of a difference, still I was at my wits end and willing to try anything so off I went and purchased my first pair of Crocs.”

“It was amazing from the very first second that I slipped my swollen feet into them, I knew that I had found relief. These lightweight cushiony shoes are just like walking on a cloud, my feet instantly felt comforted. The shoes also have plenty of room which is a godsend as my feet tend to swell throughout the day. I love them even more because they are slip-ons and there is no need to bend down to put them, this is a major plus when pregnant.

A main selling point of Crocs shoes is that they mould to your feet for maximum support, not a lot else I can add really Jill has covered it all.

Taking good care of your feet

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

According to research 75% of people in the UK experience some kind of foot problem.

Badly fitting shoes, too much walking, and being overweight are common causes of aching feet. Ligaments in the foot become strained which leads to pain in the middle of the foot, discomfort may also spread along the inside of the foot and into the calf.

Foot strain of this type often disappears with rest, if the pain continues consult a doctor.

More serious foot problems can be caused by wearing the wrong shoes.

Shoes which are too tight cause bunions, corns and calluses and if worn too much and too often may even result in deformed feet.

Shoes which are too loose may slip up and down causing painful blisters.

Continuous wearing of shoes with heels higher than 5cm (2″) compresses the toes, may cause bunions , over lapping toes, and backache.

Wearing the correct fitting shoes is one of the keys to avoiding foot problems, get your feet measured, its not just children who should have their feet measured, feet can increase in size as we grow older.

The best way to strengthen your feet is to go barefoot as much as possible, this improves the mobility of the toes, reduces tension in the feet and generally helps you to relax.

Take regular care of your feet, cut your toenails regularly, and wash your feet daily in warm soapy water, make sure you dry them thoroughly.

Treat yourself to a pedicure every so often, or do one on yourself at home.

Regular foot massage also helps to improve circulation and relieve tensions.
