I’m sure most people will agree that while correctly applied nail varnish enhances the wearers appearance if the job is done badly it has the opposite effect.

Follow this simple procedure to ensure you have perfect nails every time.

Wipe your nails with nail varnish remover and ensure that they are dry and free from soap. Lay a towel on a table and spread one hand flat upon it.

Starting with the little finger apply one thin coat of colourless varnish, paint the centre of the nail from the cuticle to the tip and finish by brushing down either side, remove any surplus with the brush. Varnish the rest of the nails on that hand in the same way, and then do the nails on the other hand.

Let the colourless varnish dry and then, using exactly the same technique, apply two thin coats of coloured varnish, allowing the varnish to dry between coats. Clean off any smudges with a cotton bud dipped in nail varnish remover.

Finally after the second coat is dry apply a top coat of colourless varnish, over the nails and under the tips. Ensure that your nail varnish is completely dry before you do anything with your hands.

Eye shadow

In order to get the best effect when applying eye make-up choose eye shadow colours that either enhance or contrast with the colour of your eyes rather than going for an exact match.

For example topaz makes brown eyes look deeper. Blue eyes are flattered by grey, mauve and coral shades. The green in hazel eyes is accentuated by the use of violet eye shadow.

Eyeliner

Use a pencil or liquid eyeliner to emphasise shape, eyeliner colour should black, brown or a toning shade that complements the eye shadow colour.

Mascara

In order to achieve a more wide-awake effect use an eyelash curler before applying mascara, hold the curler near the base of the lashes and squeeze then do the same process towards the tips of the lashes.
