Clothing Retailers Hit By Wet Weather

July 2nd, 2007

The prolonged period of wet weather has got UK Clothing retailers running for cover as they suffer their worst trading period for five years, the problem has been compounded by interest rate rises and the lack of key summer fashion trends.

Many clothing chains have brought forward their summer sales because sales targets are way down.

A CBI report last week said clothing sales in June fell at an annual rate seen only once before in the 24-year history of its distributive trades survey.

Things are unlikely to improve just yet as it is forecast that the Bank of England will announce a  further rise in interest rates this week.
