This week the fashion world suffered a great loss. Designer Alexander Mcqueen was found dead in his home. The designs of Alexander McQueen were worn by such celebrities as Cameron Diaz, Rihanna and Lady Gaga and he was known across the globe for his shocking creations that have captivated and inspired millions during his many years as a designer.
He worked at Givenchy for 5 years as head designer before he founded his own fashion labels, Alexander McQueen and McQ. Of the many awards that were won by McQueen, one of the most prestigious was the British Fashion designer of the year award which he won four times between the years 1996 and 2003, being one of the youngest designers to do so. He was also awarded a CBE and at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards was named the International Designer of the Year.
Lee Alexander McQueen was born in Hackney, London on 16th March 1969 and died in his luxury London flat on 11th February 2010 where he was found hanged. He was 40 years old. Mcqueen’s death comes as a huge shock to the fashion industry just weeks away from London fashion week and is certainly a tragic loss to the international world of fashion.
