Founded in Japan in 1947 by K. K. Tsenumi, the Edwin company began designing and manufacturing jeans in 1961. Edwin’s Japanese selvage denim has been the bestselling jean brand in Japan since 1981 and is still influencing all the different fits and washes you see in fashion stores today.
Edwin have an international reputation for constant innovation and development new techniques and processes of manufacture, such revolutionary washing procedures and fabric development. The result of this process of constant improvement is that almost every new product that has been unveiled by Edwin over the last 4 decades has had a major impact not only on the denim industry, but also the waves have been felt by the wider fashion industry.
Back in the middle of the 1970’s Edwin introduced a new type of washing, “Old Wash”, which involves rubbing and scraping the material by hand, thus producing a worn out look that is still popular today.
They were also the first to come up with the Stone Wash process and a local abrasion technique, known internally as “Bomber”, which produces the natural aged look on jeans, many twenty-first century denim finishes across the industry are based on Bomber.
Edwin today produce not only denim jeans but also t-shirts.
