The Fat Face Clothing company came from humble beginnings the first store was opened by founders by Jules Leaver and Tim Slade in 1988 in the French skiing resort of Méribel. Slade and Leaver were skiers and in order to fund the lifestyle they sold their belongings which included a VW camper van, with this revenue the pair bought plain t shirts on which they printed slogans and logos.

The name ‘Fat Face’ was inspired by Le Face, an Olympic ski run and a particular favourite of Tim and Jules. The slogan “better a bad day on the water than a good day in the office” attracted a fair bit of custom from tourists from the United Kingdom, so much so that they chose to move the business to Britain. The initial Fulham store opened in 1992 and by the time the Fat Face flagship store opened in Exeter, in September 2007, turnover exceeded £110 million.

Growth has been massive there are now 160 Fat Face stores in the UK and worldwide destinations such as Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE, Ireland, France,Kuwait, Oman and Qatar. Fat Face produce fashionable outdoor clothing for those who enjoy the great outdoors and love sporting pursuits such as skiing and surfing. The company motto is “Life Is Out There”.
