Would you like to get your hands on something that has been pre-owned by your favourite celebrity?
Well here’s your chance the UK’s biggest charity Cancer Research UK and brands-for-less retailers TK Maxx and HomeSense have teamed up with online auction site eBay for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bid for a piece of celebrity history.
Sharon Osbourne, Duffy, David Walliams, Tyra Banks, Nicky Hilton, Rupert Grint, Leighton Meester and the Duchess of York are just some of the celebrities that have parted with their prized possessions for Give Up Clothes For Good – a campaign to help raise valuable funds for life-saving research into childhood cancers.
Fans keen to purchase their favourite celebrity items will have the chance to bid on clothing including designer handbags, coats, dresses, signed trainers and t-shirts such as Sharon Osbourne’s Burberry coat, David Walliams’ Tom Ford suit and the Duchess of York’s Issa dress. The auction will go live for a week on Thursday 25th March at 8am – closing on Thursday 1st April at 2pm at www.ebay.co.uk/giveupclothes.
Sharon Osbourne, international celebrity and judge of America’s Got Talent says: “I’ve donated my favourite Burberry coat for the Give Up Clothes for Good campaign. I know that donating it will help to raise money for an amazing cause – beating childhood cancer. I really hope the general public gets behind this campaign as it’s such a simple thing to do. It won’t cost them a thing, they’ll be clutter-free and helping raise money for a good cause at the same time.”
David Walliams, comedian and star of Little Britain says: “I’ve donated my favourite Tom Ford suit to the campaign. It’s dark grey and I’ve looked outrageously smart in it in the past. While I would have loved to keep it, I know it will be raising money for an important cause. Cancer is such a horrible disease at any age, let alone when you’re a child, so we need to do everything we can to help fund more research. Please take part in this campaign and help save more lives.”
Duffy, multi-award winning singer says: “I wore this on stage when I performed at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, August 2008. I have really happy memories of the event because the summer heat heightened the crowd’s spirit and the atmosphere was just amazing. I’m donating it in support of the Give Up Clothes for Good campaign to raise awareness and funds for this fantastic cause.”
This is what Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model)O told us about the campaign for charity: “When I found out about this campaign, I immediately wanted to help – so I’m
donating this purple shift dress, which I love. It’s by Catharine Malandrino and it has the cutest zip detail. We can all get behind Give Up Clothes for Good to raise as much money as
possible and help beat childhood cancers.”
Launched in 2004, the bi-annual campaign Give Up Clothes for Good is not only for celebrity donations but organisers are urging the general public to rummage through their wardrobes and cupboards to join the fundraising by dropping in unwanted quality clothing and households goods to any TK Maxx or HomeSense store between 5th-25th April. The campaign in 2008 raised £3.2 million to help beat childhood cancer and this year aims to raise over £6 million for groundbreaking research.
Special free donation bags will be available in TK Maxx and HomeSense stores at the end March however all bags are welcome from bin bags to supersize carrier bags. Each filled bag could be worth up to £30. For details on how to get involved check out the TK Maxx website www.tkmaxx.com
