Founded in 1998 by textile technologists, Abigail Garner & Thomas Petit, Gossypium was the end product of their mutual agreement that a lot of the stages during the manufacturing process and ultimately the sale of clothing were out-of-date or superfluous and that better garments could be designed and manufactured in a more eco friendly, fairer and more lineal way.

Petite and Garner began their work with cotton fibre and moved to India to become consultants to Agrocel, a farmers service centre located in the cotton fields of Kutch, in western India.

Gossypium design and manufacture not only great quality clothing but also bedding and accessories using Organic and Fair trade certified cotton.

The first garments produced by the company were sold on a stall on Brighton beach almost 10 years ago, they have since grown to become a profitable ethical business concern.
