Royal girlfriend to become a fashion model

According to a report in the Daily Star, Prince Harry’s girlfriend Chelsy Davy has dropped out of her postgraduate degree at Bristol University to become a fashion model.

A friend of Chelsy said:

“Chelsy is in talks to become the face of Upper Deck clothing, a new Kenyan company looking to launch in the UK.

“The clothes are made using raw African materials and Chelsy likes the idea of promoting an African clothing brand in the UK.

Prada fashion house could be up for sale

The film The Devil Wears Prada was set in the world of fashion.

The luxury Italian label Prada could be sold to a private individual or consortium, reports have said. Rag-trade billionaire Richard Caring, who owns a number of London restaurants including the Ivy, has been named as one of the interested parties.

Prada has denied being in talks with Mr Caring and said a sale of the business to any group was not on the cards.

John Lennon Glasses to sell for over £1million

All you need is … cash, and lots of it, a pair of John Lennon’s trademark ‘granny’ glasses is expected to sell for over £1million after a fierce bidding war on online auction site 991.com.

Lennon wore the gold rimmed glasses when the Beatles toured Japan in 1966, after the tour he gave them to his Japanese interpreter.

Electroclash – Behind the Fashion

Electroclash is influenced by the early 80′s electropop bands, and has been in the underground scene in Berlin, Detroit, and New York since the mid 1990′s.

John Taylor says of the scene “Fashion and music should go hand in hand, when you go to a nightclub and the people look fantastic, it adds a whole different feel. I think electro is about bringing together the music, fashion and like-minded people, specifically people who are willing to experiment. That’s the whole point of electro, it’s about experimenting.”

Models younger than the age of 16 are to be banned from the catwalk under new industry guidelines.

The Model Health Enquiry report by the British Fashion Council (BFC) which centres on the issue of size zero models is due to be released on the 11th July and high on the list of priorities is be an age limit on modelling.

UK consumers buy jeans with their beans

Research by market analyst TNS shows that sales of fashion items in supermarkets is slightly ahead of those in department stores for the first time, the supermarkets market share has risen to 7.4% in the past quarter, slightly ahead of department stores at 7.3%.

The report shows that four out of ten Britons have bought a clothing fashion item from a supermarket this year.

UK closes gap on Italy in annual clothing spend

In a new report by market analyst Verdict, United Kingdom residents spent an average of £556 on clothes a last year, this is up from £518 in 2001.

Italy remain in the top spot, however the UK is catching up. The Italian average clothing spend for 2006 was £602 each a drop of £20 from the £622 recorded five years earlier.
