Prince came from humble beginnings in 1970 Bob McClure invented the “Little Prince”, the first ball machine for home court use, he operated out of his garage in Princeton New Jersey. In 1976 Howard Head invented the first oversize tennis racquet. The “Prince Classic” became the most successful racquet of its time. Further innovative developments in racquet technology included the use of graphite and multi-filament strings.

In order to fulfil the company mantra of serving up all a tennis player needs Prince launched its first range of apparel in 1984, followed quickly in 1985 by the TPU-4000, a lightweight and durable dedicated tennis shoe, a step forward from the all purpose sports shoe.
