Purple has emerged as Autumn’s hottest colour, stars everywhere have been seen wearing the colour including Dame Helen Mirren when she picked up the best actress award at the Emmy’s.

Purple is a powerful colour and much more sophisticated and sensual than the monotones which are also popular at present. Purple is also a regal colour which evokes many visions from royalty to grapes in a vineyard.

Care must be taken not to overdo the purple in your ensemble though, pick one strong piece, be it a skirt, dress, top or coat and mix it with the seasons other colours such as neutral grey or black.

Black stocking or tights compliment a purple dress and a purple top looks great under a grey or black jacket.

Purple also comes in a wide spectrum of shades from subdued amethyst through to darkest plum, and there is a variation to suit most skin tones and hair colourings, darker shades like violet and plum look great with a tan and subtle pastels such as lavender and lilac are more suited to blondes and those with fairer complexions.
