Paul Van Doren founded Vans in 1966 in Anaheim, California. Vans produce a fantastic footwear and clothing range aimed mainly at the skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding crowd. When the company first started, in the 60s, they took orders for shoes from customers on a morning at their store for pickup the same afternoon, the time in between was used to manufacture the shoes to the customers’ specifications.
In the 70s the Vans company produced wool lined mukluks with uppers of both canvas and rubber for the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Air Force. Today, Vans produce many different styles of shoe, featuring many different patterns and prints. The company has also sponsored many different sporting events over the years, for example; the Inaugural Triple Crown series in 1994, which later became the Vans Triple Crown series.
The company has also built several different skate parks such as the huge 46,000 square-foot Vans Skate Park in Orange County which was opened in 1998 and the enclosed skate park which was opened in the Festival Bay Mall in Orlando, Florida which was opened in 2002. The Vans brand of footwear and clothing is now available in several different countries worldwide.
